Function
- may be involved in Ca+2-dependent exocytosis of secretory vesicles through Ca+2 & phospholipid binding to the C2 domain or may serve as Ca+2 sensors in the process of vesicular trafficking & exocytosis
- regulates the Ca+2-dependent secretion of norepinephrine in PC12 cells
- required for export from the endocytic recycling compartment to the cell surface (putative)
Cofactor: binds 3 Ca+2 per subunit via the C2 domains (putative)
Structure
- homodimer
- can also form heterodimers
- interacts with both alpha-tubulin & beta-tubulin (putative)
- belongs to the synaptotagmin family
- contains 2 C2 domains
Compartment
- cytoplasmic vesicle, secretory vesicle
- synaptic vesicle membrane
- recycling endosome membrane
- in mast cells, localizes to endocytic recycling compartment (putative)
