- opposes the vasoconstrictor & proliferative actions of angiotensin 2
- ligand for G-protein coupled receptor Mas
- enhances LTP in CA1 region of hippocampus
- formed from angiotensin 2 via hydrolysis by ACE2, or from angiotensin 1-9
Expression
- chronic administration of ACE inhibitors increases angiotensin 1-7 levels 10-25 fold
