Etiology
- exposure of bare skin to a cold, windy environment (33-60 F)
Pathology
- chilblains are among the mildest forms of cold injury
Clinical manifestations
- the fingers, ears & tip of the nose are typically injured, with itchy, painful erythema on rewarming
Management
- treatment consists of rapid rewarming, analgesics & avoidance of recurrence
- nifedipine of no benefit[2]
