competitive atrioventricular (AV) dissociation

Introduction
Competitive AV dissociation occurs secondary to an increased rate of AV nodal, His bundle or ventricular depolarization exceeding the rate of sinus or atrial discharge. This rhythm is generally benign. It is important to distinguish this rhythm from 3rd degree heart block.
