• tryptase is major neutral protease present in mast cells
• secreted upon the coupled activation-degranulation of mast cells
• immunoprotective role during bacterial infection
• role in protection against K.pneumoniae infection (putative)
• preferential cleavage: Arg-|-Xaa, Lys-|-Xaa, but with more restricted specificity than trypsin

• belongs to the peptidase S1 family, tryptase subfamily
• contains 1 peptidase S1 domain
