• component of the nuclear lamina
• increased phosphorylation of lamins occurs before envelope disintegration & probably plays a role in regulating lamin associations
• interacts with lamin-associated polypeptides IA, IB & 2

Structure

• belongs to the intermediate filament family
• farnesylated on C-terminal CaaX motif

• nuclear membrane; lipid-anchor, nucleoplasmic side

Pathology

• defects in LMNB1 are the cause of autosomal dominant adult-onset leukodystrophy
