Function
- G-alpha subunit of Golf protein
- odorant receptors are linked to Golf
- stimulation of adenyl cyclase-3
- mediates signal transduction within the olfactory neuroepithelium & the basal ganglia
- may be involved in some aspect of visual transduction, & in mediating effect of one or more hormones &/or neurotransmitters
Structure
belongs to the Gs-alpha family
Expression
- expressed in olfactory neuroepithelium, brain, testis > retina, lung alveoli, spleen
- trace amounts are found in kidney, adrenal gland & liver
Pathology
