Function
- appears to modulate the interaction of APOE with beta- migrating VLDL & inhibit binding of beta-VLDL to the LDL receptor-related protein (LRP)
- binds free fatty acids & reduces their intracellular esterification
- activates LCAT & may activate certain forms of lipoprotein lipase
Structure
belongs to the apolipoprotein C1 family
Compartment
Expression
Comparative biology
- apo C1 is present in acidic (APOC1A) & basic (APOC1B) forms in P paniscus, P abelii & P troglodytes & perhaps also in baboons & macaques
- in humans, the acidic form has become a pseudogene
