Function
- protease that degrades Lys-48-linked polyubiquitin chains
- protects target proteins against proteasomal degradation
- protects APC & human papillomavirus type 16 protein E6 against degradation via the ubiquitin proteasome pathway
- thiol-dependent hydrolysis of ester, thioester, amide, peptide & isopeptide bonds formed by the C-terminal Gly of ubiquitin
- phosphorylation protects against ubiquitination & subsequent degradation by the proteasome
- ubiquitinated, leading to degradation by the proteasome
- identified in a complex with the COP9 signalosome complex
Structure
- belongs to the peptidase C19 family
- contains 1 DUSP domain
Alternative splicing
named isoforms=3
Expression
- expressed in skeletal muscle, kidney, heart, placenta, liver, thymus, lung, & ovary
- little or no expression in other tissues
Pathology
- protects human papillomavirus type 16 protein E6 against degradation via the ubiquitin proteasome pathway
