Expression
- synthesis occurs immediately above small population of matrix cells at base of hair bulb & trichocytes lining dermal papilla, extends upward through matrix & ends in the lower part of hair shaft cortex
Pathology
- defects in KRT85 are the cause of ectodermal dysplasia pure hair-nail type
Genetics
maps to a duplicated region on chromosome 12
