• cycles between an active GTP-bound & inactive GDP-bound state
  • in active state binds effector protein
• regulates cellular responses, including
  • cell spreading
  • formation of actin-based protusions
    • lamellipodia
    • membrane ruffles

• cytoplasm, intracytoplasmic membrane
• membrane-associated when activated
• co-localizes with NRBP to endomembranes & at the cell periphery in lamellipodia

Expression

• expressed in brain > heart, placenta, pancreas
• expression down-regulated in quiescent fibroblasts & induced by serum stimulation
