Indications
- abdominal or pelvic surgery
Procedure
- epidural administration of local anesthetic, generally into the lumbar vertebral region where the spinal cord has become the cauda equina
- all medications for spinal anesthesia should be prepared in the hospital pharmacy or purchased pre-mixed from the manufacturer[2]
Notes
- epidural regional anesthesia may be associated with better outcomes from surgery than general anesthesia
