Etiology
- caused by occlusion of sweat duct in the lower epidermis or dermis
- prolonged exposure to heat, especially in tropical areas, while performing heavy labor is usually necessary
- may occur as a progression from miliaria rubra
Epidemiology
rare
Clinical manifestations
- stinging, pruritic lesions similar to miliaria rubra
- appearance of discrete vesicular lesions
- decreased or absence of sweating in affected regions
- may occur as a progression from miliaria rubra
- hyperthermia, exhaustion & heat intolerance may occur
Laboratory
not useful in diagnosis of miliaria
Management
(common to all forms of miliaria)
- moving to cooler environment
- application of cool compresses
- wearing light, loose-fitting clothing
- avoidance of greasy topical agents
- natural desquamation
- ensure adequate hydration
