Clinical manifestations
- sudden onset
- stable course over 24 hours
- clear consciousness
- variable attention deficit disorder
- variable cognition impairment
- hallucinations are predominantly auditory hallucinations
- delusions are sustained & systematized
- variable impairment of orientation
- variable psychomotor activity, from retarded to severely hyperactive
- variable speech patterns
- involuntary movements are usually absent
- generally no physical illness or drug toxicity
