Indications

• identification of visual field defects
• used in the definitive diagnosis of glaucoma
• identification of visual field defects due to stroke

Procedure

• assesses integrity of visual system
• white lights may be presented in various regions of the visual field
• kinetic red-target testing uses 5 mm red-topped pin
• limitations: time, patient cooperation, co-existing eye disease

Notes

• except for detection of homonymous hemianopia, visual field testing is fairly insensitive for detecting visual field defects
