Etiology

Epidemiology

  • common in elderly (Western societies)
    • 40% by age 60, 60% by age 80 years[4]

Pathology

Clinical manifestations

Complications

Management

  • Most cases asymptomatic & do not require treatment
  • lower GI bleeding may occur which in most cases resolves spontaneously
  • avoid constipation
    • high fiber diet may not be protective[6]
    • gradual implementation of a high-fiber diet is treatment of choice (MKSAP19)[13]
  • patients need not avoid nuts or popcorn[3]
