Introduction

A variegated hyperpigmentation & telangiectasias of the skin followed by atrophy.

Etiology

• associated with facial erythema of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE)
• associated with heliotrope eruption, Grotton's papules & exfoliative dermatitis of dermatomyositis

Microscopic pathology

• mild basal damage
• epidermal atrophy
• pigment incontinence
• vascular dilatation - papillary dermis

Clinical manifestations

• hyperpigmentation
• hypopigmentation
• epidermal atrophy
• telangiectasias
