Etiology
Epidemiology
- endemic in Mediterranean, India, Africa
- transmitted by ticks
- reservoir: rodents, dogs
- spring, summer
Clinical manifestations
- incubation period 2-14 days
- fever, headaches, myalgias
- maculopapular skin eruption (rarely vesicular & petechial)
- eschar at site of tick bite
- eruption on proximal extremities, spreading to face & trunk
- regional adenopathy
Laboratory
Complications
- neurologic manifestations
Management
- see Rocky Mountain spotted fever (doxycycline for 7-10 days)
