Introduction
One of several regions of the cerebral cortex, including:
- primary olfactory (piriform) cortex
- hippocampus
The allocortex is characterized by fewer layers of cells than the isocortex (typically 1-3 versus 6 layers of cells).
It is thought that the allocortex represents a more primitive structure than the isocortex.
