Introduction

Plays role in development of cerebral cortex. Most of the cells derived from the embryonic subplate undergo cell death in late fetal & early neonatal life. Surviving subplate neurons lie either in the infracortical white matter as interstitial neurons in layer 1 of the cerebral cortex
