Clinical significance

  • tests attentional interference & executive function
  • poor performance is an independent risk factor for subsequent (first ever) stroke[2]
  • poor prestroke performance predicts poststroke mortality[3]
  • poor performance may be a manifestation of unrecognized cerebrovascular disease

Procedure

  • a timed test that measures the time to draw lines between scattered circles.
    • connect numbers & letters in alternating sequence, i.e., 1 to A, then 2 to B, then 3 to C, etc. (see cartoon, fat client only)
