Clinical manifestations
- bipolar symptoms
- steroid psychosis severe in 6%, mild-moderate in 28%[1]
- begins 7-10 days after starting
- dosage is directly related to the incidence of adverse effects[1]
- 26% incidence with 120 mg/day of methylprednisolone for 8 days[1]
- 1.3% incidence with < 40 mg prednisone/day
- 4.6% incidence with 41-80 mg prednisone/day
- 18% incidence with > 80 mg prednisone/day
- case report of steroid psychosis 1 week after 7 days of IV dexamethasone 6 mg/day[2]
