white muscle fiber (fast fiber, type 2 fiber)

Introduction

Striated muscle fibers with less sarcoplasm, myoglobin & mitochondria than red fibers. They are generally larger* in diameter & contract more rapidly than red fibers.

* In the human psoas, red fibers are thicker than white fibers[2]
