Systolic Hypertension in Europe (Syst-Eur) trial

Introduction

Subset to this trial involving vascular dementia & antihypertensive therapy

Treatment:

• start nitrendipine
• add enalapril & HCTZ as needed

Results:

• similar to Systolic Hypertension in Elderly Program (SHEP)
• incidence of vascular dementia 0.77% in treated group vs 0.38% in placebo group
