acetylcholinesterase in amniotic fluid

Indications

• for use in connection with serum AFP & amniotic fluid AFP & fetal ultrasound for detection of neural tube defects at weeks 15-21 of gestation

Clinical significance

• acetylcholinesterase is not normally found in amniotic fluid
• it can be identified in amniotic fluid from pregnancies with neural tube defects & some other types of birth defects
