Complications

• penetrating neck injuries can be associated with
  • vascular injury
  • airway injury
  • cervical spine injury
  • nerve injury

Management

• possible benefit of leaving foreign body in until imaging & surgical evaluation
  • foreign body may provide tamponade if a major vascular structure is injured
