Introduction

The upper part of the laryngeal cavity from the superior aperture to the vestibular folds or rima vestibuli.

Boundaries:

• anteriorly by the epiglottis
• laterally by the mucosa overlying the quadrangular membranes
• posteriorly by the mucosa overlying the arytenoid cartilages & arytenoideus muscle
