Introduction
Transition or differentiation of epithelial cells into mesenchymal cells.
Occurs:
- during embryonic development
- during progression of epithelial tumors
- with hypoxia (renal tubules)
- with peritoneal dialysis
May play a role in fibrosis (epithelial cell -> myofibroblast).
- chronic renal failure
- glomerulnephritis
- hypertension
