Epidemiology

• frequently performed 1980-2000 to correct myopic refractive errors

Procedure

• performed manually
  • incisions are neither perfectly radial nor symmetric

Complications

• reduced visual acuity
• corneal scarring
• glare & halos.
• risk for progressive hyperopia
• globe rupture with minimal trauma (rare)
