Unna's boot (Gelocast)

Introduction

Soft cast.

Indications

• treatment of venous stasis ulcers

Procedure

• inner layer of non-elastic zinc oxide bandage covered by an elastic, self-adherent wrap
• with foot at 90 degrees, wrap bandage in spiral turns with a light tension from base of toes, stopping 1-2 inches below knee
• wrap a leg with 75% overlapping layers
• this covers the leg with at least 2 layers
• smooth & mold bandage with hands while wrapping
• cover Unna's boot with a elastic adhesive bandage to keep clothing clean
• Unna's boot may be left in place for 7 days

Notes

• active ingredients: calamine, glycerin, zinc oxide
• other ingredients:
  • gelatin, imidazolidinyl urea, magnesium aluminum silicate, methyl paraben, propyl paraben, simethicone, sorbitol, water
• packaging: 4 inches x 10 yards, 10.1 cm x 9.2 m
