Epidemiology
- more common in men but can occur in women, especially postmenopausally
Pathology
- risks associated with visceral fat
Clinical manifestations
- body fat accumulation predominantly in the trunk & abdomen, as opposed to the hips & thighs (gynoid distribution)
- includes both visceral fat & abdominal subcutaneous fat
