Epidemiology

• often detected incidentally on cardiac CT

Clinical significance

• ~30% of patients with ischemic stroke have left atrial diverticulum
• patients with left atrial diverticula have a higher risk of recurrent stroke than those without diverticula (15% vs. 8%)
• presence of left atrial diverticula does not correlated with atrial fibrillation
