Introduction
focal outpouchings from the wall of the left atrium
Epidemiology
- often detected incidentally on cardiac CT
Clinical significance
- ~30% of patients with ischemic stroke have left atrial diverticulum
- patients with left atrial diverticula have a higher risk of recurrent stroke than those without diverticula (15% vs. 8%)
- presence of left atrial diverticula does not correlated with atrial fibrillation
