Procedure
- standardized process involving the collection, centrifugation, & preparation of a urine sample
- collection: A clean-catch midstream urine sample is preferred.
- centrifugation: A standard volume of urine, typically 5 mL, is centrifuged at a centrifugal force of 400 g for 5 minutes
- supernatant removal: supernatant is removed by decanting or pipetting
- resuspension: the sediment is resuspended by gentle mixing or tapping & a supravital stain may facilitate the identification of sediment contents
