iron sucrose; iron hydroxide sucrose complex (Venofoer)

Indications

• iron deficiency anemia not responding to oral iron supplements

Dosage

• given as IV push or slow infusion
• 200 mg/week until iron stores are replete, then 200 mg/month for 4-6 months
• No test dose is required

Monitor

• blood pressure; injectable iron may cause hypotension.
