Indications

  • may be measure of obesity that predicts mortality better than BMI

Procedure

  • Body Roundness Index = 364.2 - 365.5 Eccentricity*[1]

* Eccentricity quantifies the degree of circularity of an ellipse[1]

  • its values range between 0 to 1
  • 0 is a perfect circle, 1 a vertical line
  • BRI combines waist circumference & height to describe body shape[2]
  • BRI in ref[1] ranged from 1-16
  • eccentricity is defined as square root of (1 - [[[A25007|waist circumference]] in cm/2 x pi]*2 / [0.5 x height in cm]*2), where *2 is squared[2]

Interpretation

  • larger values of BRI are associated with rounder individuals
  • values closer to 1 are related to more narrowly shaped lean individuals
