- bacterial meningitis: multiplex PCR assay can detect 14 pathogens in 1 hour[1]
- BioFire FilmArray Pneumonia Panel (BioFire PN) targets 33 genes from viruses. bacteria & antibiotic-resistance genes[2]
Clinical significance
- Biofire PN detects an average of 1.2 bacterial pathogens in specimens[2]
- standard bacterial culture detected only 0.5 organisms per sample
- Hemophilus influenzae in 33%
- Streptococcus pneumoniae in 20%
- Staphylococcus aureus in 20%
- gram-negative bacilli in 18%
- Moraxella catarrhalis in 12%
- Biofire PN detects viral pathogens in 51% of specimens[2]
