Clinical significance
- Glidepaths are based on the following principles
- clinicians need guidance concerning many different types of patients, not rigid guidelines based solely on age
- evidence-based medicineshould be used but has some limitations to be aware of
- clinical experience, which emphasizes individual outcomes instead of population- based medicine, is an important component of medical decisions
- room for patient preferences in medical decision-making
- an approach to patients based on probable life expectancy & function, rather than age
- a focus on common problems seen in every day geriatric practices
