Indications
- evaluation of carpal tunnel syndrome
Clinical significance
- 64% sensitive, 83% specific for carpal tunnel syndrome[1]
- 87-91% sensitivie, 90-95% specific[2]
Procedure
- firm digital pressure across the carpal tunnel to reproduce symptoms
- press thumbs over carpal tunnel & hold pressure for 30 seconds
- onset of pain or paresthesia within 30 seconds in the distribution of the median nerve is a positive test
