Staphylococcus capitis

Epidemiology

• part of the normal flora of the skin of the human scalp, face, neck, scrotum, & ears

Pathology

• has been associated with prosthetic valve endocarditis
• rarely associated with native valve infection
• may plat a role in prosthesis infections (total knee arthroplasty & total hip arthroplasty infections)

Laboratory

• coagulase-negative Staphylococcus
