Etiology
- chronic pressure on the ischiogluteal bursa
Clinical manifestations
- pain & point tenderness over the ischial tuberosity
- exacerbated by prolonged sitting on a firm surface
- improved by standing & walking
- pain may radiate down the posterior hip
Differential diagnosis
- lumbar vertebral compression fracture
- pain worsens with sitting or standing
- tenderness over the lumbar spine
Management
- avoid prolonged sitting on a firm surface.
