Caution:

do not cut reservoir patches
- Duragesic, Estraderm, NicoDerm
- MATRIX patches such as CombiPatch, Nitro-Dur, & some fentanyl generics may be cut...but there's no proof that the dose will be accurate
transdermal patches containing aluminum or other metals in patch backing can overheat during an MRI scan & cause skin burns^[4]

heat can increase drug release^[2] -including sunbathing, heating pads, exercise, fever
