Management
- facilities experiencing an increased number of respiratory illnesses (regardless of suspected etiology) among patients/residents or healthcare personnel should immediately contact their local or state health department.
- facilities should restrict visitation of all visitors and nonessential healthcare personnel, except for certain compassionate care situations (eg, end of life), & are expected to notify potential visitors to defer visitation until further notice.
- visitors who are permitted must wear a face mask in the building and restrict their visit to the resident's room or another designated location
- Cancel communal dining and all group activities (both internal and external).
- Identify staff members who work at multiple facilities, & actively screen & restrict them appropriately.
- Nursing homes with residents suspected of having COVID-19 infection should contact their local health department.
- frequent testing & immunity-based staffing interventions may reduce transmission of SARS-CoV-2 in nursing homes[2]
