Uses

• used chelated to samarium Sm-153 samarium for treating pain of metastatic bone lesions

Mechanism of action

• EDTMP complexed to samarium produces a bisphosphonate complex that concentrates in areas of bone turnover
• lesion to normal bone accumulation is ~5
• Sm-153 produces short range beta particles preferentially irradiating cells close to the EDTMP-samarium complex
