Indications
- advanced heart failure not eligible for other devices.
Procedure
- includes a pulse generator implanted below the clavicle
- device is connected to a lead that attaches to the carotid artery
- device delivers electrical impulses baroreceptors in the carotid sinus, which sense how blood is flowing through the carotid arteries & relays information to the brain. The brain, in turn, sends signals to the heart & blood vessels that relax the blood vessels & inhibit the production of stress-related hormones to reduce heart failure symptoms.
