• thought to be the result of repeated trauma & possibly anabolic side effects of insulin

Clinical manifestations

• occurs at injection site of repeated insulin injections
• palpable, rubbery growth
• hyperpigmentation uncommon

Adverse effects

• labile control of blood glucose levels due to variable insulin absorption

Management

• prevention
  • rotation of the site of insulin administration
  • use of finer needles
