Clinical significance
- useful marker of tumour activity in adult epithelial tumours[1]
- serum levels elevated in children with Wilms' tumor & neuroblastoma[1]
- levels elevated with liver disease (hepatoma, cirrhosis or chronic active hepatitis)[2]
- levels higher than 200 U/L suggest pancreatic cancer vs chronic pancreatitis[3]
