Introduction

Most fire extinguishers provide 60-90 seconds of spray in order to extinguish small fires or to slow or contain larger fires.

There are 3 types for different types of fires:

  • Type A: ordinary combustibles, i.e. wood, paper, plastics
  • Type B: flammable liquids
  • Type C: electrical fires
  • Type ABC: all of the above

The acronym PASS is remembered to operate a fire extinguisher

  • Pull the pin
  • Aim hose at base of fire
  • Squeeze the handle
  • Sweep spray across base of fire
