Introduction

As an individual ages, the amount of physiological reserves available to counter any challenge to homeostasis decreases. Eventually, physiologic reserves are needed to maintain homeostasis in the absence of a challenge.

Notes

  • ref[2] cites an alleged example homeostensosis:
    • a mouse model of shortened life span with multiple progressive age-related phenotypes
    • they treated with a drug to target & remove p16ink4a- expressing cells
    • this delayed onset of skeletal muscle loss, cataracts & adiposity
    • they did not live longer, but appeared healthier for a longer period of time
