Indications
- sterile plastic bag used for closure of abdominal wounds[1]
- most commonly used in cases of abdominal compartment syndrome*
- secondary peritonitis#[2]
* used to postpone definitive closure of abdominal wound until elevated intra-abdominal pressure can be resolved
# allows exposure of abdominal content between re-explorations; may prevent fistula formation
Procedure
- generally a sterilized, 3 liter genitourinary irrigation bag sutured to the skin or fascia of the anterior abdominal wall
