Indications
- inherited mitochondrial disease in women (Leigh syndrome)
Procedure
- the nucleus of a donor egg is removed
- the nucleus from the mother's egg is placed into the donor egg
- the father's sperm fertilizes the egg, which contains the mother's nuclear DNA & the donor's mitochondrial DNA
- the fertilized egg is then implanted in the mother[1]
